A member of the mint family, Leonurus cardiaca is an herbaceous perennial native to central Asia and southeast Europe. Now naturalized around the world, motherwort is loved for its calming properties and energetics relating to the heart. It has been used in traditional herbalism for its healthful attributes and is considered cooling and drying.

Motherwort is a bitter herb, offering the benefits of this characteristic. It has mild diuretic properties and is a relaxing nervine. Herbalists from a multitude of cultures and backgrounds including European, Native American, Chinese, and North American have utilized this highly cherished herb, and continue to do so today.

Our motherwort extract is made with organic aerial portions and organic alcohol at our extract facility. With a distinctive aroma and bitter taste, motherwort tincture can be taken in water or juice. It additionally pairs well with other extracts such as lemon balm extract, hawthorn extract, or passionflower extract. Add a bit of this tincture to a comforting cup of tea like peace tea or evening repose tea.
